What has been happening inside the classrooms in our school?

-In Miss Amanda’s preschool class, we are studying counting, numbers, and making patterns in math. We are learning letter sounds and the first sound in words in reading. In science, we are learning about bugs and mammals.  We read lots of books every week. Some of our favorites have been Today I Feel and Go Away, Big Green Monster. The most fun thing this year is hearing the crazy things kids talk about. Our class celebrates with reward jars. Our favorite celebration has been extra play time or an outside snack!

-In Mrs. McAfee’s class, we are studying adding to ten and subtracting from ten in math. We are learning sight words and reading decodable readers in reading. In science, we are learning about plants. The most fun thing we have done this year so far is math fluency, math, Heggerty, Would You Rather, reading words, sight words, playing on the big grass and the first and third playground! The books we have enjoyed reading this year are Dr. Seuss books.  We have celebrated filling 20 hundred boards and have been rewarded with playing on the 1st-3rd grade playground, a dino hunt in the library, and playing on the big grass. -In Mrs. Worton’s first grade class, we are studying how to add and subtract big numbers by grouping in math. In reading, we are learning how to read r-controlled vowel words. In science, we are learning about light and sound. The most fun thing we have done this year is doing science. We love doing hands-on science experiments!  The books we have enjoyed reading this year are amazing animal books! We have celebrated filling 12 hundred boards and have been rewarded with a pajama day, bring a stuffy, and show and tell! (Written by Stone- a 1st grade student)

-In Mrs. Summers’ second grade class, we are learning to subtract 3-digit and 2-digit numbers in math. In reading, we are learning about what excites us about nature and reading poems. In science, we are learning about erosion and how the Earth changes during severe weather. The most fun thing we have done this year is PLCs, Fun Friday tents and fort building, buddy reading with 5th graders, and incentive celebrations. We have celebrated filling 13 hundred boards and have been rewarded with a s’mores party, tent time, extra recess, free choice, Fun Friday with the entire 2nd grade, and art drawing. -In Ms. Bingham’s third grade class, we are learning how to find the area in geometry. In reading, we are learning how to determine the main idea of a text and find the key details to support the main idea. The most fun thing we have done this year is read Charlotte’s Web. It was a great book, and after reading it, we watched the movie. The books we have enjoyed reading this year are the Lunch Lady Series. We have celebrated filling 10 hundred boards with reward activities. One was movie and popcorn day, watching Chicken Little. (Written by Lyla- a 3rd grade student)

-In Mrs. Hill/Mrs. Nielson’s fourth grade class, we are studying fractions and how to compare, subtract and add them in math. In reading, we are learning text structure, theme, and inferences. In science, we are learning patterns of the earth and sky. The most fun thing we have done this year is go on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History. The books we have enjoyed reading are The Witches and Stone Fox. We have celebrated filling 12 hundred boards and have been rewarded with playing bank, pizza, a hot chocolate party, and a chip party! (Written by Sydnee- a 4th grade student)

-In Mrs. VP’s fifth grade class, we are studying the volume of a 3-dimensional shape. In reading, we are combining information from several articles to show that we are experts on the topics. In science, we are learning if we could make dull pennies into shiny pennies by dipping the pennies into different liquids. The most fun thing we have done this year is our Halloween red carpet contest and gingerbread house decorating contest. The books we have enjoyed reading this year are Esperanza Rising, Hero, Thirst, and the National Park Mystery Series. We have celebrated filling 15 hundred boards! (Written by Navy- a 5th grade student)

-In Ms. Steele’s sixth grade class, we are learning how to describe and solve real unit rate problems in math. We are learning how to determine the main idea of a text and what figurative language is in reading. In science, we are learning about solids, liquids, and gases and what their characteristics are. The most fun thing we have done this year is have a Capture the Flag game every Friday. The book we have enjoyed reading this year is The City of Ember. We have celebrated filling 12 hundred boards and have been rewarded with activities like having pizza and Zeppe’s Italian Ice. (Written by Addison- a 6th grade student)

-In Mrs. Casto’s class, we are learning about fractions in math. In reading, we participate in 95 Percent reading groups, and we practice FORI fluency. We work on our Chromebooks, also. On Thursdays, we all like having P.E. The most fun thing we have done this year is joining in class parties. The books we have enjoyed reading this year are Holes and The Phantom Tollbooth. Did you know that one of Mrs. Hales’ favorite books is The Phantom Tollbooth? Our class loves recess and PLCs, too.
