Roosevelt School Community Council Meetings are held at the school quarterly to discuss community and school issues here at Roosevelt Elementary. What is the School LAND Trust Program and what does the Roosevelt Community Council do?

In 1894 Congress created a land trust including one-ninth of the land of the state to support our public schools.  Today schools still have 3.3 million acres scattered around the state.  That's about the size of Connecticut.  These lands are held by the state as trustee for our public schools.  All revenue made from these lands is saved in a permanent State School Fund which is currently over $1 billion.  The School LAND Trust program distributes those dividends to all public schools across Utah.  These funds are the only discretionary funds many school receive.

Each school elects a community council made up of parents, teachers and the principal.  The council carefully studies the schools test scores, decide which areas they want to improve, and develop a School Improvement Plan.  From that plan the council chooses which academic areas to focus its annunal trust dividend from the School LAND Trust program to improve student performance.

How can you get involved?

The Community Council has meetings that are open to the public.  We encourage everyone to attend these meetings.  You are also welcome to contact the principal or the chair person to discuss any concerns or issues you feel are important.
